Apart from all the places already mentioned, here are some of my favorites:

- Andechs Monastery (with beer garden)
- Waldwirtschaft Grosshesselohe (rent a bike and enjoy the trip along the Isar)
- Ammersee
- Salzburg (city where Mozart lived)

My favorites are visiting Neuschwanstein Castle and Dachau concentration camp. Don't forget the Olympic Stadium!

Take the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It's an absolutely stunning town in the middle of the Alps, and is very much the quintessential Bavarian village. There is a ton of good food to be had there, and historical sights and quaint buildings galore.

Neuschwanstein Castle is quite the site, but lines to get in can be LONG.
Nymphenberg Palace which is right in the city is lovely - check out the room of beauty - the walls are covered in paintings of beautiful women. Also, on site they have a small pottery/china factory.
Garmish/Partenkirchen is LOVELY - and if you're in the right place at about 4:30 or so, you'll hear/see the cow herds (with their traditional bells) returning home for the night - a WONDERFUL sight.
Oberammergau - the home of the Passion Play is in the area as well - lots to see there too - even if it is an off-year.
Dachau - for a history lesson.
ENJOY the Octoberfest !! Eat local cuisine (stay away from North American fast food places).

hi, good day trips? you have the alps within ca. 2 hrs, the lakes, like starnberg lake within 30 minutes (king ludwig), augsburg within 45 mins (great historic inner city), regensburg within 2 hrs, oldest stone bridge in europe if not in the world, plenty to do in munich itself, cultural as well as sightseeing, if you ever sober up from the octoberfest, lol

I enjoy Landsburg. So much to do in Munich you might not have time to do day trips out into the country. Cheers.

hofbrau haus, the deustches museum, shloss neuschwanstein which is 50 miles south of munich. any hotel u stay in will have brochures, and the english bier garten, good food, great beer. marion platz

Lots! Dachau & Nymphenberg Palace are right there. Just get on the local train and go out to a village and stroll around. The Garmisch region has lots to do (Zugspitz, etc).

See if you can find the book, "Day Trips for Germany." It has a whole section dedicated to Munchen.
