I'm going to be in Munich 6 days before Oktoberfest actually begins. Are there any pre-festival activities?
I don't think so, just business as usual in the city, go to the Hofbraeuhaus and enjoy it or help building up the Oktoberfest ;-)

There are bars everywhere. Go explore at night and find your own party.
Spent an entire month at Oktoberfest in '94. Was fun, but the bars in the city are more interesting to me.
MEW
Not really. There is a parade that happens on the opening day, and the tapping of the first keg is usually a newsworthy item, but other than that no pre-party party.
chapinero
Sorry, but no prefestival activities.
You could go to Theresienwiese though and watch how everything is prepared. You might even sit at the canteen for the workers and have a beer there. (It's officially forbidden, but you might be lucky.)
o yes there is.Either go to thalkiken campinghttp://www.munich-info.de/travel/camping_en.html in munich and there is 200 to 300 aussies and kiwis who are partying 24/7.Or if you want to witness something you will never see anywhere then go to the free camp (where they park all the combie vans and left over aussies/kiwis that couldn't fit into thalkirken camping.)and witness the 100 club. The 100 club is 1 day before the octoberfest starts and the dat before heaps of aussie/kiwis go to the monestry and eat pork hocks and drink 18% beer(tastes mighty fine)I have done all of the above and beleive me if you went to all 3 of the aboveevents then the octoberfest would ALMOST be an anticlimax.ENJOY.PROST(cheeres)
