I'm going to be in Munich for Christmas, what should I do?
I'll be in Munich Germany over Christmas, including eve and day. Xmas Day I have tickets to go to Neuschwanstein, and Dachau a couple days later. What else should I do while there? Additional Details Please useful answers, none of that have fun or enjoy crap.
Note that pretty much everything will be closed on and around the Christmas days and new year. That's everything. Even public transport will be reduced. You'll be able to get petrol and window-shop - that's it.
In between the holiday days the city has everything to offer depending on what you prefer to do. There are numerous stately homes and museums, clubbing, eating out - all of which a guidebook can explain a lot more comprehensively than I can.
Being as you will arrive shortly before Christmas, you can enjoy the Christmas markets throughout the city in the various quarters - Tollwood (it has a website) will be on during your stay too.
If you are so inclined, skiing and snowboarding is a possbility, for that I'd recommend a car like someone already suggested and see the Bavarian Alps - again, lots of info available out there.
If you see it as an opportunity to experience stuff more than a shopping list of 'to do' I'm sure you'll get more out of the trip - especially for the Christmas period.
AD
Go to the Christmas market at Marienplatz (central Munich). That'll get you in the right mood for Christmas for sure.

Visit the famous Hofbrau house and enjoy some delicious German food...and beer! The city is full of history...just take a stoll. Are you renting a car while you are in Germany? If so, get on the Autobahn and travel into Switzerland and Austria. The Alps are beautiful this time of year. Dachau is incredible. It is a tour I will never forget. Hitler's Eagle's Nest is also not far away. This is another place of history from the Nazi era. Enjoy your trip!
