I am going to be moving to Bitburg, Germany in about a year. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Bitburg is a small town with most things you'd need to survive. For urban expectations....you do have Trier which is about 25 minutes driving....and a decent shopping area. It is safe, charming, and without any stress. As for negatives...it is a rural environment and it is awful quiet. Positives....most locals are pro-US and you won't find much if any crime. And the travel situation is fairly positive....you are less than an hour from the Rhein, a 20-minute drive from Lux City, and four hours from Amsterdam. Don't stay home much!

You will probably never want to leave. I never went back home

I don't think you will have too much to do in Bitburg. It is a small town that is best known for it's beer, called Bitburger. It has a population of about 10,000, so the town will be relatively quiet. Probably the best thing about living in Bitburg is that you will be near many great cities. Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, will be just hours away.

Only good things. Germany is nice you like it.

Spangdahlem Air Base was my first duty assignment in the US Air Force and is about 12 miles from Bitburg. I spent about 4 years in the area, and enjoyed all of that time. There isn't much nightlife, but there is plenty to do and see. Bitburg Air Base, the active part, is gone, but there is an annex of Spangdahlem still there. The countryside is scenic, and you are close to many places worth visiting - Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, as well as numerous places in Eastern and Southern Europe. Hope this is a great adventure for you!

Good grief laesmralda - what's wrong with you woman?

You can't go to Bitburg - the whole place is crawling with Germans!

Change you mind and come to your senses before it's toooooo late.
