Spangdahlem isn't a bad place to try and see a lot of different countries while on a short visit. Try to hit these spots while here:
-Trier Christmas Market about 1 hour from Spang.
-Maastricht Belgium about 1 hour from Spang.
-Mosel Valley to Rhine Valley, start your trip around Bernkastel-Kues near Wittlich about 30 minutes from Spang. and drive along the river to Koblenz till you get on the B-9 towards Mainz just follow the river it'll be a great drive and start early in the morning.
-Luxembourg City and Patton's grave located near the International Airport in Lux. follow the signs to the US Military Grave Site.
-Metz, France is also a nice place to visit about 1.5 hour drive from Spang.
-Paris is always a great place to visit.
-If you have the time you could jump on a plane at Hahn International Airport with Ryan Air and visit Berlin or London or Pisa always good for a quick and cheap hop. While at Hahn you could visit me at my American Hot Dog Stand just outside of the terminal(free advertising). You can only book your flights with Ryanair online by the way.
-If time permits don't miss Cologne(Koln) located 2 hours from Spang. it's got a nice xmas market and chocolate museum is a must.

Bring good warm walking shoes, hat, gloves and jacket it's wet and cold here. Some snow a little rain and fog. Hope you enjoy your trip and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

You can see a lot of the countries up north. You are near Belgium, France, Holland, Luxemburg . . .

Have Car, Will Travel . . .

Have your son and his wife drive you around up there. You are probably in a 3 hour span to a lot of interesting places up north.

Since you are up there, you should check out Heidelburg. European Command is there and so your son can get on post as well.

You are about 3 hours from Paris. It is a really interesting city.
