I am wondering why the professor is not sponsoring you. But I know what you mean. You need someone that'll take over costs for living expenses and medical treatment. But I think you won't find someone doing that this way.

Germany does not have the sponsoring system. Even if Germany would have the sponsoring sytem, the University would be your sponsor. But like said before, that's not the case in Germany.

@smartguy: please be aware that no professor of any University will cover living expenses, insurance etc for a student. Unless you got a schoolarship, all costs are on you.

You will get paid each month and that should cover your expenses. A friend of ours from Jordan is just finishing his Phd in Geophysics and he earned enough money to pay rent, eat, medical insurance. He did not need a sponsor.
