I am moving to Germany and need help!?

I have obtained my passport and thats all. I have tried speaking with the local consulate but am not getting any help. I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I get over there. I know that I have 90 days to get a job and obtain my work visa. But I know there has to be more than that. Any advice would be VERY helpful! Thanks so much!

Nikki, do you speak German in any way? I mean: A little? That will help you over here.

There's a lot of bureaucracy to be done over here; first thing is a registered placed of living. You can prove that by a rental contract in Germany. Next thing is an employment, however steady it is. You can prove that by a work contract. And then (I assume that you're from the U.S. or some related country), there's no more to worry: As soon as you don't lose your job or don't apply for social welfare, you can almost stay as long as you like.

You might find the names of the authorities ("Behörden") a bit confusing and frightening, like "Ausländeramt" or "Meldebehörde". Sometimes I think these names have just been invented to scare foreigners. Take the jump; just dare.+

I'm a German and still can't read Legalese; but I ask friends who know better. And I'm sure you'll make friends here soon.

My daughter went with her fiance. He is a German citizen. She had to register as a resident of the city she is in. Later, when she found a job, she had to fill out paper work, her employer had to fill out papers. And then she waited 7 weeks for her working papers. This was to work at an large American firm. When she first went to get her working permit the clerk misunderstood and thought she had not registered as a resident. My daughter got the feeling she was about to be deported, so get that resident paper first.
