I am thinking of moving to Germany. What is it like to live in or visit what used to be E. Germany? |
I lived in the Frankfurt, W Germany area for 2 years while in the U.S. Air Force (1986 - 1987). I met many friendly Germans, although the staring took some getting used to. Garmish is to die for !! I am presently teaching English in Taiwan. Of course, I misss how clean Germany is. |

I was in Dresden for a week and cannot wait to go back! The people there were wonderful, the buildings were awesome, and the beer was the best!
The best (or worse) thing about any country is the people and how they treat you! If I were to move to Germany, it'd be in the Dresden area. Google "Dresden Frauenkirche"....I was in it! |

i've got the impression east german ppl. are more easy going and social; when i moved from east to west i had some trouble to adapt to some habbits, but then I found good friends, too. Some ppl. say the coolest place to be in the east is east berlin. I lived there for 15 years.. and yes, it's great.. forget munich, hamburg, frankfurt or stuttgart. it's just big culture, mixed ppl and every night some party. |

I moved to Germany in 1998 and lived in the West. I found people in the was to be 'What's in it for me' and very money orientated. My wife was born and raised in East Germany, so we moved back here last year. You'll find the people in the East are a lot more friendly and outgoing than their western counterparts. True, in the East there is a lot more unemployment, but that doesn't stop them from having a good time, we get the best concerts in the East...old bands that didn't exist in the DDR (radio censorship) are finding a very large fan base (again). If you move to Germany...the East is the best way to go. Oh yeah, it's cheaper to live in the East than the West. |
