Get over here, speak English, and try to learn some German. That's all I can say. I am German and was 14 years old when I went to exchange to France, and, quite frankly, after having had half a year of French at school, I didn't understand a word there. But it took me just a few days to pick up the most important things.
You'll have one big advantage in Germany: Most people who'll you meet learned English at school, or are learning it. When you try to pick up German, first of all, you'll experience that every German region have their own dialect. In some regions, it might sound like Scottish Gaelic to you, and in fact, it is, sort of. But every German can speak "standard German", maybe with a local accent, but everybody can.
The capital, Berlin, well, I lived and worked there for seven years. You must see it. While the rest of Germany seems to me rather backwoods and boring, Berlin is the hot-pot, and really will inspire you. Take a few days to see that city. But take care; it's also a crime hot spot. Racism is outrageing there.
The German people? Well, quite normal, I'd say. You won't notice any major difference between U.S. American and German people. Some Americans have the feeling we Germans are a bit colder and less emotional than Americans; but I read from their blogs that they changed their minds once they got to know us better. And we share the same culture, watch the same movies and T.V. series, and so on. You'll meet a friendly people here in Germany, with one exception: No American football, or national baseball league! If there's an "important" soccer game on TV, every German will turn that on, and will watch it LOUD!
But you might be allowed to download some mp3s to your player... |

Kunst means art in german... Germany is beautiful, the women are beautiful, the atmosphere is really chill , there are wine festivals, and beer feativals, pretty liberal drug laws, if you are in the right state. In Bayern religion influences alot of the laws. I lived the for 4 years from 19-23 it was a really good time.
The language isnt very difficult to pick up either, but everyone speaks english. |
