Aleckii

I arrive in Tegel airport, Germany. What do I do then?

I speak no German, and I'm not really good, direction-wise. Could somebody tell me where should I head in order to catch a bus to a youth hostel in Mitte?
Maybe give me some suggestions on how to ask questions, eg
"Good afternoon"
"Excuse me, Do you Speak English"
"Where can I find a bus to Mitte?"
"How to Get to ----?"
"Thank you very much"
Additional Details
I hope somebody could add the pronunciation too? I am trying my best not to offend Germans, by attempting to converse in their language but ended up saying something rude or inappropriate! HAha! Would appreciate it a lot! : )

first of all most germans speak english, so youll get along anyway. but i like your attitude about speaking the local lanuguage of a country your travelling to.

hello = guten tag (goo-tan tug)

excuse me = entschuldigung (ant-shool-dee-goong)

do you speak english? = sprechen sie englisch (spra-shen see anglish)

where leaves a bus for mitte? = wo faehrt ein bus nach mitte (woa fay-rt ine boos nuh-ch mitta?)

the ch in nach is pronounced like the j in spanish

how do i get to . . .? = wie komme ich nach . . . ? (we komma eesh nuh-ch . . .?)

thank you very much = vielen dank (feelan dunk)

good luck and enjoy your trip! anymore questions? email me :)

It's nice you are going to Berlin (tegel is the airport). Berlin is such a nice city. You like it. You don't need to be worry so much, the Germans speaking English. You need to follow the TAXI or Bus signs at the Airport exit doors. Also you can ask for that.
Good afternoon = schoenen Nachmittag
Excuse me, Do you speak English= Entschuldigung, sprechen Sie Englisch?
Where can I find a bus to Mitte?= Wo kann ich den Bus zu Berlin-Mitte finden?
How to get to----?= Wie komme ich ......?
Thank you very much= Vielen Dank.
Do you have a dictionary? There is also some little conversations sentences in it.
I hope this help you little bit, I love traveling and also I was in Berlin and going soon again.
Have a nice trip.....

Almost everybody in the travel/hospitality business is going to speak English. I would leave the german for later on your trip. I would have the EXACT AND COMPLETE address written down on a piece of paper. Take the subway to the center of town and then a quick cab ride to exactly where you are going...Give the address to the cab driver...he/she will know exactly where all the hostels are...( Note: be careful everyone claims to be and wants to be in the "Mitte" it can shift all over the place depending on who you are talking to...there is no legal definition of MITTE. It's like saying "downtown" or "midtown". The meaning is kind of sketchy.

You are asking a lot of questions. You get bus TXL from Tegel to Alexander Platz in Mitte - cost 2.10€ for the one way trip. There is more information on travel to Berlin on the same website as I have already mentioned.

This webpage shows bus/ubahn stops at Tegel. Get on the 128 bus. Pay the driver for a normal ticket (2,10 € I think). Punch your ticket there (punchbox on pole behind driver). Get off at K. Schumacher Platz Ubahnhof (U6). Take the train toward Alt-Mariendorf, NOT Alt-Tegel. Your bus ticket is good for the U-bahn also. Go 3 stops and get off at Seestr. Go 2 blocks SW on Seestr. and take a left on Antwerpener Str. Number 40 is a youth hostel you can look at here: http://www.jgh-berlin.com/. It's not right in downtown Mitte, so you may only stay there for 1 night, but hey, I'm no AAA agent or anything! You can go to www.multimap.com and type in their address to see exactly where it's at. Willkommen in Berlin! P.s. Check out www.toytowngermany.com if you plan on staying a while!
