Yes he can stay with you in Germany the exact visa and paperwork depend on his nationality.If he is New Zealand citizen it will not be very complicated due to an arrangement between Germany and New Zealand.

EDIT: to be a german citizen has nothing to do with being born there but to have either a German father or mother.
Unlike USA Germany has citizenship right not by place of birth but by 'Jus Sanguinis' (by having German blood). |

If your soon-to-be husand is from New Zealand, then he can just enter with you and file all required paperwork once in Germany.
