I lived there for a while. I was married to a German. It was not so easy. The people were often mean and kind of rude in the big cities but very nice in the smaller towns. Bavaria and Heidelberg were the best areas for me. Those people were able to handle native German learning people there the best. Oh, also East Berlin was really good. The people in East Berlin often spoke German as a second or third language so they were not mean when errors were made or if things were not understood. It was amazing for me how few people spoke a second language in Germany. Most killed English (required couse in German school) when they tried it but made me feel super bad for small errors in German. I was raised speaking English, Italian, French, Yiddish and Spanish-then studied German later. The food was really difficult. Everything was pork and beer. If you went for Chinese or Greek food, it was pork. I missed variety with beef, lamb etc. Pork under some colored sauce for dinner and stuff on bread for breakfast every day was a little boring.

Damn Good Dawg
I am stationed in Wiesbaden right now. It is awesome.

I lived in Germany (Ludwigsburg, a small city near Stuttgart) for a year and LOVED it! I met some really amazing people and life-long friends! Some people think Germans are cold or rude, but they just have a different culture and way of living. I've been back twice since and hope to go again within the next year or two!!! Ich liebe Deutschland!!!

I have been there during the world cup, nice&friendly people. Becareful with German food&beer, I gained kilos during my stay.
I like Germany!! ;)

I have been there twice and have met some really great people there, but as one of Europe's largest countries with more than 80 million people, it is often hard to generalize people. I think that that there is just as much racism there as there is here in the United States. It is just in different ways. For example, the Turks living all throughout Germany definitely is rampant and is very similar to sociopolitical problems that we have here in the United States with illegal Mexican immigrants.
