The question was about popular music between 1939 and 1945 not today.
Zarah Leander was a big star during that time. Other names that come to mind are Hans Albers, Johannes Heesters, Horst Winter and Willi Fritsch. Heinz Rühmann was more of an actor but had quite some hits as well. Of course there were more and maybe more important ones, but those are the names I've heard from my grandparents.
Marlene Dietrich and the Comedian Harmonists had been very popular as well, but the Comedian Harmonists were vorbidden sometime 1935 or 1936 and I'm not sure if Marelene Dietrich was still broadcasted after her fallout with the NS Regime.
