Its pronounced as a "voiceless velar fricative"

The closest thing in English would be the proper way to pronounce the word "Loch". It isnt pronounced Lock but somewhere between a ch and a h sound.

Like the "J" in Spanish
Or an "X" in most slavic languages.

I guess its best described as a Hard H. Pronouncing it as 'H' is closer to correct than 'Ch'.

Jay gave you a good answer regarding the hard 'ch' (CH combined with a hard voal a,o,u).

With a soft voal I E it sound different.

I will add a link so you can check for yourself.

This translator will speak your words, so you can listen to them. The German sounds very natural:

Try translating the words "milk", "waking up" and "cooking" to start ;)
