I need to get from N Wales (Bangor ) to Berlin without flying, preferably by public transport,?

I would prefer not to go via London and the tunnel but I will if necessary.

I'm from Bangor (Co Down) and going to Berlin at end Oct, so come over here via Holyhead to Dublin, then car to Bangor. Together we'll then go Belfast/ Stranraer, then to Hull, then to Hook of Holland and then to Berlin. We'll be there for Christmas, don't know which year though!

I'd say the best way would be to get to the Harwich somehow, probably by train and then get the ferry across to the Hook of Holland. Once there get a train to somewhere within the German border - possibly Cologne or Dortmund from where the cheapest way to get to Berlin is by bus. It takes about 8 hours but is dead cheap. Otherwise, if time isn't an issue get a Schone Tag ticket which is dead cheap and should get you to Berlin in more comfort than the bus. Otherwise a train from West Germany to Berlin will cost you at least €80. I'd say book trains as far in advance as possible because Deutsche Bahn do discounts for early bookings.

Personally, I'd catch the train http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ to the nearest ferry port for a ferry to Europe. Continue on using the train. I know Thomas Cook publish European train timetables and they used to be fairly accurate (but it has been a decade since I used them). I don't where else to get timetables unless you ask Thomas Cook directly.
Alternatively, go by bus http:/www.eurolines.com/.

It is possible - as has been described. Unfortunately those routes take a long time. The alternatives mean travelling via London. To go by train you travel by Eurostar from Waterloo to Brussels thence to Cologne and then to Berlin - journey time - about 12 hours. To travel by bus operated by Gulliver's Reisen - bus leaves Victoria coach station at 14:30 daily arrives 90:00 next morning. The journey is described more fully in "Travel tips" at www.jbb7994.com

Try British Rail to London, Eurostar to Calais or Paris, Paris to Berlin.Or Direct to Dover by rail or coach, Ferry to Calais, Rail to Berlin.By rail to Dover it may be neccessary to change trains at London, or you can go direct to Folkstone or Dover. Quite a journey, however my brother travelled this way to Spain and Italy as he does not like flying or travel on water.Go into your local rail information office and ask for a ticket direct to Berlin, this ticket is supplied with a complete itinerary for the journey. Alterantively ask your travel agent. Have a good trip.
