once youv'e seen one youv'e seen them all, they only differ in size, same stuff on show/sale, might as well go somewhere where there are other sights to see as there are xmas markets everywhere you go, as nice as they are i wouldnt spend a whole weekend looking round one, ive been out here 4yrs now so ive seen a few.

Nuernberg is the nicest I've heard but I've never been there, always busy at work even Christmas. In small cities to the south they have their nice Christmas market too. You can travel from city to city to compare :-) Karlsruhe is a quite nice place. Personally I like Freiburg im Breisgau because I work there before, some of my friends they visit Loerrach or Strassburg in that season. Germany have a lot of old buildings you can see it every city you go. I wish you have fun there in Germany! I spent my 8 lovely years there, that was wonderful!

Munich is quite good

Also try Vienna in Austria, it's a lovely city I went there for a three day city break a few years ago and it is really beautiful

the most famous one is in nurnberg, the so called Christkindlmarkt.
Its an wonderful atmosphere.
One here described it very good.

It think it depends on where in Germany you want to stay.
There are a lot christmas markets around Germany.

The most famous one is in Nuremberg. It's really cool within the city close to the old castle. The only thing is it's quite big and always full. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is another town famous for it's Christmas market. It's close to Nuremberg and they got Christmas articles around the year. It's a little traditional town with old buildings, exactly how you would imagine old Europe :-)

Anyway every city has it's one Christmas market and they're all quite nice. The ones in Southern Germany have more atmosphere and I personally prefer the ones in small cities :-)

Here some pictures (for more just google):

Nuremberg: http://www.weihnachtsmarkt-deutschland.de/bilder/nuernberg-weihnachtsmarkt.jpg

If you understand German here is a listing of all the Christmas markets in Germany: http://www.weihnachtsmarkt-deutschland.de/
