With all due credit to Bernd for his answer to me .....

I asked a similar question earlier this year and am copying the answer I got from Bernd. I used this as a basis in planning our trip to Germany in September. What we did was to search on the web for all the places he mentioned as well as places of interest that we got from travel books to plan.

I included Rottenburg, Trier, the Mossel valey, the Rhein river, Fussen and the Black Forrest amongst others in our trip.

Hope this will help. Enjoy your trip.

"In Karlsruhe is a very nice castle, right in the center.
from Karlsruhe you go north and take a cruise on the river Rhein (go to Bingen) and along the Rhein (Rhine) valley are a lot of castles.
go back south of Karsluhe, you heading towards the Bodensee, there is the "Black-Forest", you know: Kukuksuhr!!
visit some very nice country sides there, its beautiful.
Heading to the Bodensee, visit the island Mainau, its wonderful (the flower island). a lot of very nice little villages along the Bodensee.
Go from there to visit the castle of...look at the link below...
and now you travel to the area of Füssen.
Here you find the fairytale castle of Ludwig II of Bayern (Bavaria)
Neuschwanstein and also Hohenschwangau.
From here you got to go little north to see the amazing village of Rothenburg o.d.Tauber. This village was never destroyed or rebuilt and still looks like some 500 years ago.
next stop is Coburg, visit the Ehrenburg, than go to Nürnberg, wonderful old city with a castle.
Now south to Munich and further to Garmisch, close by you find the most beatiful castle you ever see in your life. Schloss Linderhof.
(link below). Forget about any castle you have seen so far. This is it!!
If you havn't seen it all I suggest to go to the Chiemsee, little south of Munich. Wonderful place and again a wonderful castle on the island in the middle of the lake.
now back to Munich and relax from all the nice things you discovered over the past 15 days.
the first link is in german but very easy to understand, got a map and a list of all castles in germany but of your interest is Bayern and Baden Würtemberg.
regards
Bernd

Better you buy some book and read about Germany and make some plan. There is so many nice cities, lakes, mountains, castles, museums, to see.
I prefer: Berlin, Frankfurt/M., Hamburg, Munich, Rothenburg o.b.T., Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Bodensee, big huge lake (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) you can make there boot ride, Leipzig, Dresden.
Connection is good with the ICE train.
Have fun.....
Most people speaking English.

hey jude
I would go to Bavaria. This is the southern part of Germany with lots of sights. Visit Munich, the Alps, numerous lakes, Neuschwanstein Castle, Berchtesgaden National Park ...
