You take the train out of Munich to Hersching. You are on Ammersee, but Starnbergsee is little closer. Half hour out of munich by train, maybe . . .
In Austria, first you will hit Chiemsee on your way there. It is right off the autobahn. You cannot miss it.
As far as Austria, You have a ton of lakes near each other as you cross the border and head towards Mondsee. Lots of lakes . . . . Mondsee may make more sense if I say "sound of music"
