If I am traveling to Europe in March, how soon should I get a passport, and whats the best way to get one? |
I have never traveled outside the country, and my friend lives in Germany. I need to get a passport, and on the application, it asks for a time period. I have never done this before...
Additional Details
By the way, by "March", I obviously mean March of 2007. Also, the application says to put in the date of travel (leaving US and coming back). I'm just going for one week... |

Are you coming from the U.S.? Go to your post office, if they don't do it they'll direct you to the nearest one with Passport facilities.
You have plenty of time. Give it at least 6 weeks. If you apply now you'll have it by early June the latest.

Stuba - in case you do not know, it is now April. If it is March 2007 I would suggest that you do it now and make sure that there are no problems. You do not say from where you are travelling. If you are in the European Community you do not need a visa, but you might if from elsewhere. Make inquiries. |

You need to go in your town to the passport office and apply for the passport. That's so easy. Everybody have the right get a passport. I don't know, how long you need to wait for that. 6 weeks or less. |

ASAP!!! Its supposed to only take about 4 weeks, but could take 2 months or more...it happened to a friend of mine and he didn't get it in time for his trip to Australia. It lasts for like 10 years, so the sooner you get it, the better. Here's a helpful site:

I was going to get one last year to fo to London but never did. Howerver I do remember the instructions they gave me. To get the form at any postoffice. Had to get a "passport" picture taken at a wallgreens or other place and to have the filled form returned to the postoffice with picture and payment in person at least 2 months prior to departure and the passport should arrive at my home mail. |
