If you lived in East Germany or were part of the divide before the fall of the wall i would like your opinion?

Do products from the GDR represent an East German identity lost through unification?

Yes sure they do.
But I miss not only the products of GDR everything was better back then I wished GDR was still there with splendid leaders like Honecker and Mielke.

I think missing products are representating it more.

No! Of course some products are greatly missed, but more so because they represent 'home' - it is as if you leave your country, and then miss certain food. Like fish 'n chips, bacon, beans whatever.
Many things in East Germany were of less good quality unfortunately, but others of good quality have made their way into the united Germany, for instance FLORENA cosmetics, ROTKAEPCHEN champaign. The pickled gherkins from the Spreewald area in former GDR are very popular in the 'new' Germany, as are 'real' Halberstadt sausages.
There must be more stuff, but these articles are what come to mind quickly.
The Germans don't want to be identified as East and West anymore, after all they are now what they used to be - one country!

To me they do although I think most of the food products don't taste like back then anymore.
