I would say yes but it's not the only thing that Frankfurt is famous for, obviously.
I have been through the main "red light district" and it seemed like a very dangerous area. I have to drive through there on occasion and I regret it every time. |

Have been there! Our hotel was near the 'Bahnhofsviertel' so we always walked across it! There were a few sex shops and brothels and we saw a few prostitutes but it wasn't like the red light district in Amsterdam. There are about 1300-1500 prostitutes in Frankfurt but they usually work in clubs, bars, brothels or at home. Hamburgs 'Die Reeperbahn' is more famous for it's red light district.

No, Hamburg is the German city most associated with prostitutes.
Frankfurt is famous for banks.
Since the red light area in Frankfurt is the first thing you see, though, when you walk out of the main railway station, a lot of visitors get a distorted impression. |

i never heard that it is famous for it - and i live only 60 kilometres away.

It has a booming sex industry and is pretty well known for it's red light district. Bahnhofsviertel is considered to be one of the largest red light districts in the world. Prostitution is legal in Germany and many people travel there for it. |
