Hamburg is Germany´s boomtown - it can be compared to London. I travel there every year. Nightlife is great - the best in Germany and second only to London in Europe.

Great sights, great museums, great restaurants, Shopping is wonderful ... a must. It is much more fun than Berlin - a lot cleaner, more open minded. Restaurants offer better quality - hotels are a bit more expensive since so many people travel to Hamburg.

Definately go to Hamburg is such a wonderful city and not as overcrowded as Berlin in my opinion.
You have to see of course the harbour (Landungsbrücken) and you have to do a harbour tour with one of the ships there.
Also very interesting is visiting the famous Reeperbahn (Red light district but also a cool street to go shopping).
There is also the Miniatur Wunderland, one of the biggest model railroad in the world (really fascinating :P) and if you´re already there u can take a look at the Speicherstadt which is really beautiful.
Well the prices are probably the same compared to Berlin and the weather is more rough then in the East of Germany but all in all I swear to god Hamburg is really worth to be seen ;)
Have fun

Yes! Hamburg is very well worth visiting. Its nickname is the "Gate to the World", and it lives up to that image. It's a very multicultural city with lots of sights and entertainment.
One downside is that Hamburg is not the cleanest city in the world - we do have a graffiti problem. But other than that the city is beautiful. It has more bridges than Venice and Amsterdam but together and in the downtown area you are constantly surrounded by water and music (street musicians are very common, especially in the summer time. Lucky for you they are not the annoying kind - most of the time.)

By the way, the winter in Hamburg can get quite wet, but we do have our cold and beautiful snowy winters, too. So it really depends on what type of weather you like.

Anyway, if you go, don't bother renting a car. You can get around by bus, train, and underground just fine, and it is much cheaper than renting a car. The public transport system is truly amazing (and constantly being improved, too) and that way you will get to know the city much better.

I would say that Hamburg costs around the same as Berlin, but is much prettier. You have to get lucky with the weather, but even when it's raining you will love Hamburg, because there is so much to do. I live in San Diego, and here, a rainy day totally stops everything - not so in Hamburg. Life just keeps on going.

The nightlife in Hamburg is fantastic to be honest. Much, much better than Berlin or any other German city in my opinion - the city is famous for its red light district in Sankt Pauli. Walk down the street called Reeperbahn and you know why - there is club after club, one for every type of music you can imagine. People get drunk there all the time, so knives are forbidden! But usually it's a very safe area to go party. Don't be scared by all the prostitutes you will see walking the streets. They just complete the scenery next to sex shops, old fisherman restaurants, and flashy discos.

If you need to know more, feel free to ask me. I know my way around that town pretty well :)
Hope I helped!

Hamburg is much more fascinating than munich.
Go to hamburg

edit:
poor people from munich. So "proud" of your city, that you have to vote everything down which is against your city. Or even positive statements about other cities. Kind of funny that all positive entries about hamburg gets thumbs down, and just the munich statement gets thumbs up.
Veery bad behaviour.
