Is Munich better than Berlin?

They are really very different. Berlin is a very large, almost impersonal (anonymous) city, whereas Munich is a large village. The exciting and almost electric night life of Berlin will be missing in Munich. Also, the diversified culture and hodge-podge of Berliners is no where to be found in Munich. Munich is simply very Bavarian and the people are proud of this. Even the folks that are from other parts of Germany who move to Munich find themselves become Bavarian, whereas Berliners are proud to be different.

The Berliner mentality is very "in your face" - they don't mean any harm. Muenchener are more reserved, but also very gracious.

The other sides of cities (culture, architecture, food, surrounding area) must be experienced to see if one prefers x over y.

I recommend visiting Munich in the winter months, and then you can take a drive into Austria (2-3 hour drive and you're in one of 10-15 main ski areas) for some skiing, if that's your bag. But watch out for german holidays, where prices skyrocket.

Im from Germany and I can say Berlin is much better than Munich.
I was in both citys and berlin is bigger and nicer...

I'm from Munich, so off course I say Munich is better than Berlin :-)

Both cities are very different and I think it's worth visiting both of them. If you've already been to Berlin, then Munich should be the next German city on your list. It's definitely worth visiting and you'll see for yourself which one you like better.

Hi there from DÃ¼sseldorf, Germany For being from North-Western part of Germany and knowing both, Munich and Berlin, very well, you can trust me!

Munich is exactly what an american tourist expects: Octoberfest, leather pants, beer, sauerkraut, bratwurst, yodelling and stuff.... But: THIS is not Germany. It is like I'd say: All americans waste their money because they are gambling 24 hours long - just because I visited Las Vegas once. Las Vegas is not America, Munich is not Germany, not at all. But so is Berlin.

Berlin is an open minded city, a great mixture of people, very tolerant, lots of places to go and very friendly people. They are like the rest of us Germans, and at least - they (and the rest of Germany) does not have this strange bavarian accent, that nobody understands.

So- the answer is: Berlin, with NO doubt at all

Berlin is cool but they are remodeling the place so I would suggest Munich, but an also really cool place is Foehr an island off the coast of Germany, Hamburg or Miehlen

Like the others said it depends on what you like. I have been to both and prefer Berlin.

Munich is a lot more scenic than Berlin. Despite the re-unification, parts of Berlin feel very drab and sterile to me. I loved the Deutsche Museum, and, if you go in the right time of year, the Christmas market "ist die Spitze"! (is the best!)
