Is it possible to talk to someone via cell phone from Germany to USA?

My husband is going to Germany for a week and I'm wondering if it will be possible to speak to him on our cell phones while he's there.

Off course it is possible, but you have to make sure, your husbands cell phone is a "tri-band". In Europe we use different wave lengths. Therefore with an old "American wave" phone you won't be able to call.

Yes, I was stationed in Germany for 4 years and always used my cell phone to call home. Get a global AT&T calling card from AAFES and follow the instructions to call home.

It depends on the network but nearly all networks have service in Europe. When I went to Russia, I had Cingular and the only thing I had to do was to have the Cingular people allow international access and I was able to use the phone wherever I went. I was able to text message, call and use the internet via my phone. I think all phone companies have plans that will allow people to use their phone overseas, just check on the coverage and the costs.

Keep in mind that if your husband is going to be in Germany, it would be less expensive to call on a regular telephone. The costs are more expensive to use the cell phone but the coverage in Germany is excellent and the reception is very good.

You can give your husband a local German SIM card before he leaves USA, which will be lot cheaper to use while he is in Germany + you will know his local number beforehand.. Try the cellular company below:

Depends if his phone is equipped to do this. If so, then no problem. I have phoned the US and Canada via cell phone from Germany without problems. Mind you, the phone was bought in Germany. It only cost me 25 Euros and wasn't fancy but allowed me to call everywhere.
