This is a good question, since most of the German immigrants to this country (USA) came here prior to Bismark's unification of various entities in 1870 to form what is thought of today as Germany. My ancestors for example came from Prussia....but that consisted of portions of what is today both Germany and Poland and the boundaries were not exact. The same can be said for the boundaries of Bavaria and Bohemia in the Czech Republic...and French and German boundaries also (where the boundaries have changed so often that populations in border towns have signs in both languages and both languages are spoken there)so the answer is not necessarily..... |
