Is postponing my trip to Germany a better idea at this time?

I was very excited about my vacation to Germany and i planned it 3 months ago but now i am confused because i have black hair, olive skin and i am afraid that that might cause a problem. They also told me at the travel agency that i have to be careful.
Please give me some information.
Cities i plan to go: Berlin, Hagen,Leipzig,Francfort,Dortmund.
Do you think i will have a problem? or is it cool to go?

Don't worry, most people in Germany are very open for travelers, especially in huge cities like Berlin. There are so many cultures mixed up, you won't have a problem there. Of course, there are some "difficult" parts in some cities, but you can get more information in your travel agency or in German travel agencies. See, I'm German, but I would not go to every part of Berlin, especially at nighttime. I guess that is a problem of any city in the world.
But... it's true that some parts, especially of Eastern Germany, are a bit dangerous for foreigners. I don't think that Leipzig is a problem, but inform yourself a little, I'm sure they can tell you where to go or not. I'd totally recommend: Berlin, Potsdam, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Cologne... all those cities are great!!

oh, no!!! you will love it! just go and see for yourself....!

Frankfurt and Berlin is very international...! I'm from Frankfurt....my Dad is from India and my Mother is German....I have black hair, blue eyes and kinda olive skin......and I always get a kick out of when I speak German with a frankfurter accent!!!

You will never find anywhere else more open-minded ppl like here.......especially the younger generation.....some of the elder still kinda look funny, but just ask any young german if you ever get lost or need help!
I think its "just because" of the german history that most germans are very conscious of been very tolerant!!

Black hair and olive skin? Considering the millions of Turks, Italians, and other Mediterians(Sp?) living in Germany I do not see what your problem would be??? If anything some blond blue eyed German may fall in love with you. Put on a head scarf and you will blend right into cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, and Dortmund.
I can only wonder what kind of travel agency you use? Of course they always tell you to be careful in regards to theft. Considering other countries I have traveled to crime is not a big problem in Germany.
Let's put is this way; Tourists=Money. So, I think you will be just fine.
Good Luck and have a fun trip.
P.S. Germany is a wonderful country. I was supposed to stay 1 year for work. I have now been over here for over 20 years.

some places in east germany are alittle critical,
but it´s diffrent from usa nobody has a gun or weapon!
Life with my Indonesian wife near Dusseldorf and here you will have no problems!

I can see your worries, but actually Germany is fairly multi-cultural these days. There are a lot of what they call "südländisch"-looking people, which means "southern looking", i.e. Turkish or Middle Eastern. Mind you, I have heard bad stories from colleagues and friends over the years who have felt they were under suspicion. That wasn't just in Germany though. Most of central Europe.

No offense but WHO TOLD YOU THAT!!

Its a bunch of crock!

You will be very safe, it is safer than most US CITIES!!

Just be smart and know to avoid trouble, simple as that, I never in 18 years have had a personal problem, only a friend did once.

Leipzig, Berlin and Frankfurt are beautiful, I have not seen the others yet but I am sure they are too.

GO, don't be worried. I WENT right after 9-11!!

You always have to be careful when you travel...saw pickpockets in Brussels station and in Paris but you shouldn't be worried about to visit Germany! There are so many different nationalities and so many with black hair and olive skin that you shouldn't be afraid. There's crime everywhere in the world but Germany is one of the safest countries in the world!(no guns or weapons are allowed)
I bet you'll enjoy your visit here!

passat_hobby
You have to be careful like at other places in the world.
May be some places in the eastern part of germany are little critical.
But I think germany is not so dangerous as some places in the US.
Behave as a guest you will not have any problems.
Have a safe trip.

Why postpone your trip?Hamburg is fun ..Hagen and Dortmund are industrial towns like Pittsburgh ..... Try to avoid Berlin and Leipzig. Berlin is dangerous for foreigners.
