Long term hotel stay?

I plan on studying in europe and I consider staying in a hotel (4 or 5 star). Is there a special price discount when it comes to a 6-8 month stay or do the normal fees apply?

You can negotiate special rates for a long-stay in some hotels, but as a rule hotels don't like long-stay clients. It is rather difficult to find an acceptable rate for a long period. Most long-stay clients stay for 2 months max.
The difficulty is that you block your roommate even during special events. You can sell rooms at a much higher rate during fairs, big events etc. Those are most of the time already in the budget, but sometimes come as a surprise. When all the hotels in the city are full and you have 1 room blocked at a preferential rate, it drives the sales department nuts!

However, you have the option to choose apartment hotels which offer less service than "normal" hotels but offer long-stay rates.

The best alternative would be to rent a furnished flat that has a cleaning service. This is possible in most major cities.

Maybe a hotel isn't the best way to go.. alot of student share apartments, you probably find a place in one of those.. and its probably way more fun and cheaper.. =)!!!!!

Why would you wanna do that? Are you rich or something?

As someone mentions above there are aparthotels here in Munich.

There are also many more sensible options other than long term stay in a hotel. You'd need to put those dollars into some solid research if you're serious about studying in Munich.

Yes there is. You will need to state that you intent on staying there for longer periods of time, and negotiate a flat "per diem" rate. Also, if it is too pricey, they actually have quite a few hostels, and residential hotels that are nice in the UK.

You will pay thousands a month to do that. You are better off to rent a furnished apartment. You can find really nice apartments already furnished even down to kitchen utensils.

Edit: also to get a student visa I believe you have to show a place of residency and hotels are not considered a residence.
