Long term visa for living in Germany? |
Useful information
----------------------->>
For: Living & traveling / not working / not studying / not business
Duration: 4 years
Nationality: Indian
Reason: Girl friend studying in a German university (Indian citizen)
Looking for information
----------------------->>
1. Is there anything like general visa for those who want to stay in Germany with reasons other than work / study / travel / business
2. Can I just stay in Germany and not travel to places with a travel visa (will the embassy have issues with such an idea)
3. What is the maximum duration allowed on a travel visa or a general visa
4. Is it possible to state my girl friend studying in Germany as a reason for requesting a long term visa
5. If I get a long term visa will I be required to return to India after every few months Additional Details As asked by one of the members. I have started working as an IT Consultant some time back and all my work is based on Internet. I take website projects and everything is done on internet. I have already considered the expenses of living in Germany.
I like traveling and I can also develop contacts here relating to my work. But as of now I am not interested in going for a full time job.

So you are considered self employed now that is another thing you can get longterm visa if you can make sure you are able to live here i think you will be asked to show either what we call a 'Bilanz' that is the annual income of your company or your bankacount.On this basis you can get visa for one year first than for three years if renewed.
Hope that helps.

And what do you want to live of?
Do you have enough money to pay your food there for four long years? And what are you planning to do while your girlfriend is studying and learning? Do you think it's useful that you might distract her from learning?
Living here is far more expensive than it is in India. Rents for a flat, food and so forth are nearly impossible to pay for a student. Students must be very rich so they need not work besides studying but most of them aren't and they work for hours to be able to live here. How would it be if you come here to live with your girlfriend and not work for your living? Are you just coming over to keep her under control or what?
I tell you what: You're going to be bored soon if you just come over doing nothing for four years! And your girlfriend would feel like being controlled. Do you want this? |

I am German, and I have checked German wikipedia for your question. As has to be expected with German laws and regulations, I didn't understand a word. The problem is that the regulation for people like you (i.e. people not looking for a short-term tourist visa) has been changed completely TWICE in the last eight years.
I see only one chance to get some real information: talk to a German embassy or consulate in your country.
Another way - though less safe: check lots of websites to see if any company in Germany might need your IT services. If so, contact them, and if they want to employ you AND happen to have some competent legal&administrative personal they might be able to help you with all the administrative/legal stuff (especially if they have done that sort of thing before, preferably recently, since the last change in the law). |

You can stay 90 days. After that, you have to return to your home country if you don't have grounds to stay in Germany, your girlfriend has no reason to request anything, she is not your wife.
The boat is considered full in Germany, you have to be very intelligent to get a long term visa. |
