Low budget in Germany ? |
I'm a student
And i'm going to go to Ulm Germany for medical training with 4 other students.
Our monthly income is 1100 € each.
Will this amount of money be enough for us to rent an apartment for six months and travel during weekends to nearby countries by train or by renting a car ØŸ? |

Things like renting an apartment or a car will be well within your budget. 1.100 Euro (did I read that right, one thousand and one hundred) is more money than many a German has as a fulltime worker. Just take care to rent a cheap flat, and there will be enough money left for travel expenses. Don't buy a car, they're very expensive here, and insurance costs a lot. If you only need one on weekends or for holiday travel, rent one. Trains are also cheap on weekends, check out the "Wochenendticket" at www.bahn.de. |

I agree with Alwin.
Germany is of course not a cheap place to live, but Ulm is not too big and rent will not be too high.
For renting an appartment (incl. electricity, water, telephone, cable) you will definitly need less than half of your income.
You should check local newspaper and classifieds on the internet. So you might save the real estate agent's fee.
My favorite:

In bigger towns like Ulm you will also find car sharing station. It might be a good solution to become a member in a car sharing cycle:

Each student have $1.100. This is more than enough. So you can rent a nice apartment and there is enough money for traveling, food and some more stuff.
Have fun.... Germany is nice country. |

Actually I live in Frankfurt, so to answer you question, yes. you might pay about 500 to 600 a month for rent, but between all of you that won't be too high. Also avoid traveling by train, take Ryan Air if you want to save money. you can book a flight to spain for like 50 Euro, and all over Europe for very cheap. Look it up, Ryan Air. Also trains are not so cheap, so that should be your last resort. you should take a train to one of the Airports near Ulm. |

If this is really true that EACH of you gets 1100€ then it would be far enough. Go and find a larger flat with 5 rooms (so each of you has an own one). So, if you 5 people rent a flat together each of you pays a part and you're going to have lots of money left for food and travels.
And if you 5 people have nearly the same interests you also can travel by train on a special mini-group ticket, such as the Baden-Württemberg ticket. Ulm is in the southeast of Baden-Württemberg. It costs 25€ a day, valid from 9am until 2am the next day for 5 people. But you only can use special trains with it and travel only in Baden-Württemberg. If you want to go to Bavaria just ask at the ticket seller at the train station. There are such tickets for all the other federal states in Germany. Maybe you can combine - but I'm not sure. You must ask.
Go to www.bahn.de, select your language in the right upper corner and check it out.
Flying within Germany is also possible on cheap airlines but you must find out if it's worth. But Ulm has no airport. Nearest one would be Stuttgart (about 90 kms away) or Munich (about 110 kms away). Would only worth if you'd fly to places farther away such as Hamburg or Berlin. |
