Moving to Kasierslautern, Germany, What is it like? |
what can I expect from the people? What should I prepare myself for? Moving in January will the weather be cold or like a normal US winter? Anymore advice is welcomed. Thank youo Additional Details I need to update this more. I am a part of a military family moving to K-Town. What will it be like for children under the age of 13. How is the shopping? How is the food? Will it be easy to get on well with Germans? What should we not wear as Americans and what should we not do so that we don't offend anyone. (If you don't have anything helpful to write don't answer the question please) Were moving to Germany and we are all looking forward to it. Thank you. |

Do you mean like a US winter in Ny or a US winter in florida??? it is cold but lets say not as cold as in ny. People are friendly and you will love the food. everybody who says people are racist there and call all the germans nazis are just wrong.... Kaiserslautern has also a huge Army Base so you should not feel so bad there are a lot of americans in that area... |

It will be cold. You gonna have snow .
K-town is nice and so are the people. You will have lot's of fun.
You should use your time in Germany to visit some other European Countries (For example if you wanna visit Paris , France it is just a 4.5 h car drive ).
Belgium , the Netherlands , Switzerland are also very close
During the summer/autumm you gonna have a lot of fairs also called Weinfest.
Here are some pictures from Kaiserlautern aka K-Town

update
The German and the American mindset is not that different, you can behave & wear just like you do in the States.
The food is great . You gonna love it.
It is also very nice for the kids. You gonna find plenty of playgrounds, and Germany is also a very clean and safe place.Shopping can be a bit expensiver than in the USA (depending on whate state you live now)since you get paid in US-$ and not in €uros.
But of course you can buy your groceries on base.
The most ppl in K-Town speak English (at least some) because of the US-bases in that area (K-town , Ramstein, Vogelweh).
In case you wanna read about living in K-town & the attractions in that area, check that link

Kasierslautern is a bit over Americanized for my tastes, but it is right on the autobahn so you can live as far away as you care to drive everyday.
Germany is great. Germany has more 5-star resturants than anyother country in Europe. As long as you try to speak German (no matter how badly) the Germans are a welcoming group.
When you get there the most important thing to find is a good landlord. If you get a good landlord that will adopt you and take you in as their own your time in Germany will be 1000% better than those other people.
Get a bike, get a Volksmarching log, and get a GPS.
