My Germany 7 days itinerary?

Hello,

I am in Germany - 2 days is fine!

The only suggestion I have is to pick either Dresden or NÃ¼rnberg as it will be too much of a rush - it can be done but you won't enjoy it so much because of time constraints.
If I was to recommend the one to choose I would say go for Dresden!

As long as you know where you want to go and get up and do it - it is more than enough of time. There are so many things to see - so set your preferences.

In Hamburg you could go and see a musical -if you have time.

I recommend getting Lonely Planet Germany and planning the places and sites you want to see.

A really good tip for you is - if you know the dates and times you need on the trains - to arrive and leave the cities - book asap as you will be able to get tickets for as little as 29â‚¬ 1 way! Take advantage of this as prices for the German trains are usually expensive -you need to book at least 3 days in advance and even then you are lucky if they are available still - especially in/to the bigger cities!

2 days for Berlin is a shame - you could spent easily all of your time there.

My recommendation:

3-4 days Berlin, one or two days for the Spreewald, one or two days for Dresden. Skip Hamburg and/or Munich, you are cramming in too much.

BTW, one of the most overrated sights in Germany is the romantic road. There is nothing special or romantic about this road - it is just a name for a touristic route that connects sites that were important in German history during the "Romantic Age". The routes you see are in the south and southwest of Germany - if you want to travel them, you won't see much else.

You should parse down the number of cities you're trying to see in 7 days.
If you need to skip anything skip Hamburg. Spend the two days in Berlin, however even that is not enough for that city.

Definitely see Dresden as is has had major rebuilding over the last 20 years. Was and still is a center for the arts. Might be able to swing a trip via Nurnberg on the way to Munich.

Bayern (Bavaria) has so much to offer and Munich is a wonderful city with endless things to do and see. Yes I'm partial to Bayern having lived there. You can even do a side trip to the Bavarian alps to see Ludwigs Neuschwanstein schloss (castle).

Your itinerary sounds reasonable, except you're missing out on Cologne, which I think is a pity. And putting Dresden an Nuremberg into one day seems like a bit of a squeeze. Better only spend one day in Hamburg and give Dresden and Nuremberg their fair share. Just don't squeeze and further stops in.

Honestly, you won't really have time to see much- your schedule is pretty packed. Also, be sure you take travel time into account--you're taking on some pretty long train trips or drives.

Personally, I would recommend focusing on one area of Germany- northern (Hamburg & Berlin), or southern central (Munich& Nurnburg). Even with that, there's so much to see-- I did a 13 day trip last fall, and tried to pack way too much in-- Rothenburg, Munich, Fuessen, and Garmisch. I had about 3 days alloted to each place, but I still felt like I barely had time to see or do anything, and spent half my vacation on the train.
Honestly, you could spend a week in Munich and still need more time.... I spent an entire day in places I'd only planned a few hours for, like Schloss Nymphenburg in Munich and the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart.

I would strongly advise you to reconsider your itinerary--you're probably going to be going crazy trying to fit everything in. If you've got your heart set on this, though, plan ahead-- find out local public transport schedules, train schedules & the like so you can plan things out well in advance. Also, be prepared to come across a lot of places & things you'd like to see, but have to miss because you don't have the time....

Dresden and Nurnberg in one day is too short, IMO.
You won't see anything of both cities. Dresden deserves 1-2 days alone.

When in Berlin visit the Pergammon Museum in the area called Museumsinsel and walk down Unter den Linden (which is a fantastic avenue).
