The Okoberfest is in Munich, Bavaria. A bunch of locals and millions of tourists meet in order to get drunk. Not my idea of a fun evening. Very expensive and "weird". |

Munich has th largest Oktoberfest in the world, since about 200 years, but --- if you want a little bit more history --- visit Hamburg we have "Hamburger Dom" since about one thousend years. And if you want to have a little bit more the "longest mile of the world" is just some steps away. Perhaps you have heard from Reeperbahn. There where the beatles started their carreer.

MUNICH!
It is most famous for its good beer and beergardens. When you go there make sure you visit the English Garden. It is an amazing park with lots of beergardens.
Enjoy |

Personally if your looking for a more 'german' beer festival than the Stuttgart Wasen is much better. Oktoberfest has become a very commercialised event but the Stuttgart wasen has a much more 'german' feel to it. |

There is only one true Oktoberfest and that is in Munich.
But there are also several 'fests' all around Bavaria that have the beer and some rides. Usually every village that has a church celbrates the day the church was consecrated in a way similar to the oktoberfest only a lot smaller (They have the tents where beer is served, the rides, the food, the candy...etc). The advantage is that one can have almost the same fun but without the huge crowds.
But of course one should have seen the Oktoberfest once at least..... |

München!
try the radishes and the roasted chicken (to avoid getting so drunk!)
get some stupid pins for your t-shirt or hat
watch both ways before you cross when you're outside (i almost got run over)
ride the silly rides, it's like a carnival
eat some lebkuchen
try the wurst, or the herring sandwiches
i don't have to tell you to drink some beer and watch the mädchens carry twelve tanks at a time, do i? |
