Oktoberfest in Munich? |
I am heading to oktoberfest in Munich for 2009. I was wondering if any one had recommendations on where to stay, what the best tents are, and anything I need to know about going.
Thanks |

About hotels, reserve as early as you can! Some hotels are already booked out for Oktoberfest time. Good place to stay is near Hauptbahnhof, because there you have the underground going to Theresienwiese (where
Oktoberfest is held).
You can check hotels and hostels here:
http://www.inside-munich.com/munich-cheap-hotels.html
About the tents:
It is not possible to reserve one seat in a tent, the minimum to reserve is a table with 10 seats. Reservation is free, but minimum consumption is 2 beer and 1/2 chicken per person.
Reservations are REALLY difficult to get and you should do so now if you plan to get one. For one or two persons you can always go without reservation and usually find a space (not in the evening on weekends, though).
As for the best tent, it really depends. I personally like the "Winzerer Fähndl" the best, but take a look at all fourteen of them and chose the one you like best:

And by the way, normally you don't have a choice, you just take whatever tent is still open and lets you in :-) |

The biggest piece of advice that I can give you is to reserve everything, from your beer tent to your hotel NOW. I guess that's why you're asking though, right! I went to Oktoberfest this year. We didn't reserve anything. We waited in line at the Lowenbrau beer tent, which everyone said was the best, for 2 hours and never got in! But you do get served if you are sitting down outside and we just got trashed outside! Make sure you dress warm, it was terribly cold the day we went, but then again we got drunk and no longer felt it :) Have fun! It totally rocked!! |

You will be drinking so much beer, after awhile it won't matter what tent you are in. Just know, the German beer is alot stronger, but oh so yummy!!!!! |
