My husband is In the Air Force we did NOT pay for our own tickets. Now they did say if we took leave in Germany before his report date we would have to pay for that. My husband took a month of leave so we could see family before we moved to Germany. And we had to pay our way there and to the airport that would take us to Germany (Baltimore) And of course if you have dogs or cats you have to pay for them. OH I just thought of something, does your husband have a GTC (Government Travel Card) IF so then you have to pay for it using hte Card. Or atleast that is the way the airforce works. And somethings you get reimbursed for but to pay for the whole thing..NO that can't be right, if they did that then noone could man the bases overseas. I would have him check again. Is this is first base out of tech school? I am assuming the SPC on your id means Specialist. I could be wrong. Anyway, if he is new at this if might be some jerk just trying to scare him OR something else. But definitely check into that.
Now my husband is Air Force so somethings might be different for you. But feel free to email me if you have any other questions or concerns about moving overseas. We just PCSed over here 6 months ago. So I know what you are going through.
I just had a thought. If nothing else check out Military One Source. They should be able to help you. The link below goes straight to the moving info. I skimmed through and didn't see anything about your situation. BUT you can call them.
Surely it is just a misunderstanding though, unfortunately when they are used to telling the same things over and over again, they seem to forget that "hello, not everyone is familar with the process" So they don't really explain things like they should.
Call military one source if you can't find the answer on the website. They are very very helpful. GOOD LUCK!!! And don't worry, if that is possible, I know it wasn't for me ;o) but everything has worked out perfectly.
EDIT!!!!
Here is a link regarding living overseas. Not really related to your question here, just some helpful info, of things you don't really expect.
http://www.oconus.com/Main/eArticle.asp?35
EDIT!
I would imagine you have already found out for sure but just in case I just asked my husband.to make sure He knows several guys in the Army and he said, NO you do not have to pay for it. He said somebody was probably just messing with him or maybe he misunderstood something they said. Because like I said, sometimes they just assume everyone knows certain things about PCS. Which is stupid because hello, if you have never done it before than how can you know. But like I said before, if you have any more questions or concerns feel free to email me. We just went through all of this 6 months ago. AND my husband has just gotten a new position he is the Sponsorship Rep. for his squadron. He will help people PCSing to this base get everything taken care of and picks them up from the airport etc. So even though you are Army somethings will be similar. |

If your husband having orders for Germany, he don't need to pay anything for tickets. The government paying for that, also for the whole family. Your (1) car get shipped, and the furniture get packed too. If somebody having motorcycles, this will be in the household. So you are paying anything.
Good Luck for moving...
