It depends what you want to see...there are the very interesting cities like Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg or the little historic towns. A trip along the Rhine is also very beautiful. Don't forget the castles like Neuschwanstein and the Alps but there's also the Black Forest or the coast...:

I agree the Black Forest was awesome as well as the Eagles Nest and salt mines. So much to see and do there its really hard to find just one! The Alps are amazing!

I recommend Castle Liebenstein, it's in Kamp-Born Hofen, located on the Rhine. You can get to it by train from Cologne. It's very remote, and you can stay in it, like a hotel. I went in May, and the people were wonderful, and it was very cozy.

I lived in a town called Bamberg in Northern Bavaria. It's one of the best preserved medieval towns in Germany. The cathedral there just celebrated it's 1,000 year old diocese last year. If you're in to history and architecture and old world culture like I am, I'd try it out. It's average sized.

Berlin was also enjoyable. Again, especially for the historical aspects.

My favorite city in Germany is Hamburg - Germany´s boomtown .... affluent, culture, shopping, sights .....wonderful I travel there every year. Also nice Stade, Luebeck and Lueneburg in the Hamburg area.

Freiburg, Breisgau

Munich

Avoid East Germany and Berlin tooo many Nazis too poor
