Planning a trip to Germany, not sure on what to do, ideas?

If you are interested in Zeppelins and techniques I would propose a trip to Munich or Stuttgart. Such bigger cities are advantageous because of near airports and a a good public transport network. So you can get to many locations around these cities without any problems. There are also "tourist-tickets" available, that are - compared to sstandardtickets - pretty cheap. If you search an economical housing you can either check in in an youth hostel or search cheap hotels. In Stuttgart you can e.g. visit the Mercedes Benz Museum, thePorscheh Museum, or many other sights.
In Munich you can visit the Deutsche Museum (http://www.deutsches-museum.de/index.php?id=1&L=1 ), the HofbrĂ¤uhaus (http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/en/index_en.html ) or the Oktoberfest ( http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/index.php ).

There are pretty good train connections between Friedrichshafen and Stuttgart/Munich. Friedrichshafen is located close the Bodensee (Lake Constance). Maybe you can also stay there for some days.

Go during oktoberfest a lot of thing to do and your time will be naturally filled up

I care! I think it depends on what you want to see and your age. Are you into history and museums as well as architecture, or are you a party person and want to go clubbing.

First of all, it is expensive. Even with our rising costs here, they have it too, and they were already expensive. But then you might have money.

Are you traveling alone and into hostels, or are your traveling with other people, who need to have a nice room each night?

If you want some ideas that are a bit frugal, go online to Europe Through The Back Door, by Rick Steves. He is a local travel guru from my area who does have great ideas, and much more affordable than most people. He believes in meeting the people and not just touristy places. He also shares information on when things are affordable.

My experiencs in mainly in Berlin, The Black Forest, and Munich. I have family there and past exchange students so I have the best of all, home stays when we travel. The times we have stayed in hotels were always in the $200 range. A few times I think we kept it to $100 but this was in the east when the wall first opened.
