Places to see? At the top of the heap are the 13th-century Dom (cathedral) on Domplatz in the center of town; the Maximiliansplatz if you like Baroque buildings, for the square is surrounded by such; and the 400-year-old Gothic-style Michaelsberg which towers over the old town of Bamberg.
Also, I hate to say this but 30 euros a day just won't cut it; try multiplying that by 4 perhaps. You can get accommodations nearer to 50 euros a day if you're willing to do some accommodation searches; and then there's food and transportation (even the trains are not free!), and some admission fees if you want to poke around in museums and suchlike.
Here's a great link for sightseeing in Bamberg:

Oh, and here's one cheaper-end hotel, right next to the Dom:

As for clothing, if it's right now or even over the next few weeks, take along at least a couple of layers as Europe, particularly the part that you're going to, just had an unseasonably cold spell. So be prepared...
...and enjoy! ;D |

It's VERY easy to ride the train. If you don't want to rent a car, trains and busses are the most convenient way of transport, although their ticket price schemes are not always easy to understand. As Bamberg is located in the state of Bavaria, ask for a "Bayern Ticket Single" (for one person) which will allow you to ride any (local) train and most busses in Bavaria for a day, or for a "day ticket" for the city of Bamberg. If in need of assistance, you will most surely find someone who speaks English. Look among the younger people; the older ones usually don't.
I can't answer your other questions, because I don't know where you'll stay and how much you plan to travel around. There is private bed&breakfast which starts at 30 euros per night up to luxury hotels that charge you several hundred. You can use public transport and eat at snack stands or McD's, or buy your own food at supermarkets, where another 30 euros a day would suffice, or you can eat at high-class restaurants where the 30 euros would just be enough for a drink or two.
The weather may be rather warm and sunny, but also rainy and cold with cold winds. You can't predict it; take something waterproof with you anyway. If you're from a rather northern climate, you'll find it agreeable; if you're from the south (like, say, Arizona) you might find it quite cold. The weather in the central European climate zone can change from sun to rain every day, so you can never be sure. |
