Pros and Cons of living in Germany?

I really want to move to Germany in a few years. Hamburg seemed like a good place. Is it? Can you tell me about life there? What is different? Do you reccomend moving there? Is it hard to catch on to the language? etc.

The more help the better!

I am from Hamburg, so I might be biased, but I consider Hamburg Germany's most beautiful city. You have lots of water (lakes, rivers, and yes, rain!), and lots of green all around you.
On the downside, Hamburg is more expensive than surrounding areas, because it is a big city. I wouldn't say the the university is bad, but it has many applicants, so make sure that you have a great GPA to get in!
Also, most university courses from the US are not accepted in Germany, because the standard over there is much higher. Try not to waste your time over here, if you are taking this seriously - go to Germany after High School right away if you want to study there!

Now. How do you want to move there? This has been brought up already, but do you want to get a visa or residency or what? Because Germany is a little different with its immigration laws than the US. You do need a good reason to go there and know the language already. So if you are trying to get a student visa, research it very well.

should help a lot.
Shoot me an email if you have more questions! Good luck and pursue your dreams!

I lived there for a year in a little town called Nederrodenbach. I loved it!! It's a beautiful country. A lot of people speak English in the cities. The food is great and your close to other countries. I left my home and several hours later I was in Italy were I spent 10 days. The electricity is 220, not 120 so if you take something electrical from here you'll need to buy a converter. It's a little box that you plug in, then plug you stuff into the box and everything works fine or you can buy stuff there and not have to worry about it. I recommend you go and experience living in a different country. You can always come back. Good luck!

You are going to have to learn German to live in Germany, also, you are going to need an education and a job to live in Germany. The German government isn't going to be interested in giving you a work visa unless you already have a job, so you better start planning now.

Well, you should get information about, whether US high school degree allows to start education at any higher ed in Germany, because it seems to be not the same as in US.
About place to live... well if you want to study in Germany- you should look for the city with the right University. Hamburg is not the best. Berlin could be considered. Frankfurt is a kind of american city too.
