let me guess....ledward or conn barracks?.....schweinfurt is ok....as long as you dont get caught up in the clubbing....go see things.....was a stronghold during the war due to heavy bombing because of the factories. nice city really....no real crime, surrounding areas are quiet DO NOT go to the sennfeild area....this is dirty and welfare lives there.....try not to move into the askron manors.....this is like the ghetto of the army here in germany....tell them you want to live off the economy....umm...dont drink the water from the faucet..you must by bottled water so your teeth dont rot out....if you want water without bubbles drink ''stilles or it will say ''ohne kohlensauren....everything is great....there is a few castles around there and wurzburg is close if you have any more questions just let me know i was stationed there many years and still live in the general area and will help with any questions you have....oh and make sure when you come you need your stateside drivers license photo ID or you cannot drive here. drop me a line and let me know what unit your going to and any more questions you may have......

half of the average German crime rate. However, there is a rising problems with what the German police is calling "gangs" (which are nothing like american gangs) of teenagers. The problem here is that russians of German decent that have settled here in recent years, turkish/muslim teenagers and other ethnic groups fight each other. As an outsider, though, they will not harm you whatsoever.
Surrounding area has about the same crime rate as Schweinfurt itself. I was born and raised in that part of Germany and went to school in Schweinfurt for two years. It is a very safe environment there, with lots of small towns, scenery and cultural sights. If you are moving there: Relax, and once you're there: enjoy.

Crime over all is fairly low in Germany. If you're living on post you really shouldn't have any problems at all. In my six years of living in Wuerzburg/Heidelburg ( near schweinfurt ;] ) I only remember one crime-esque thing happening, and it was an American. There are of course little things, teenagers will be teenagers.. It's the same in any country.
As for the clubbing comment, as long as you're carefull you should be fine. Always take friends with you though.
