I send chocolates. Funny as it seems to send chocolates over there but my family is CRAZY over the caramel cups (look like peanut butter cups but under Sam's Club name) that you can get at Wal-Mart. They are in a blue ziplock bag. They are crazy for these. I have to send them all year and for all holidays, birthdays, etc. I just sent a huge pile for Christmas.

Also, Germans like honey, jam, etc. for breakfast so that might work. They might also like barbecue sauce or maybe a can of chili. It is illegal to mail beer so good you did not do it. Oh! Maybe get girl scout cookies. I think it will be time for that soon. My family loves those too. You could always get a gift certificate for amazon.com.de too.

A gift certificate might be better because you can spend more since you save on the postage.

Here is a translastion link for Amazon if you need it.

Sure, the best beer is German beer. :) You don't have to send american beer, that's available in Germany.
Be careful with movies - DVDs have a regional code and can't be played in a German DVD player, videos are definetly nor working either, the speed of recording and watching is different.
A nice idea would probably be a cowboy hat. Or maybe a Tshirt with Texas printed on it. Depending on who you are giving that gift to consider a book about texas, maybe from the city you live in. Is there anything typical for your region? That always makes good gift.
Any sport goods from NFL, NBA... are good gifts too.

I don't understand the first part of your question. Beer is bad?

Why not a cowboy hat? They will probably get you lederhosen.

When visiting Europe from the USA, I have found this to be the coolest gift. And Europeans love it.

It's the deed to land in all 50 states. It's the real deal, incl. certificate. And your friends will never forget this present, because it i going to be the topic of yearlong conversations.

A good gift is always something that represents your country, but not in a clichee manner (Texas = Cowboy hat = clichee). Try to find something that represents Texas or the States for you and bring it to Germany. It doesn't have to be big...

Pee Wee's Big Adventure! Seriously-- it has those great scenes about the Alamo, and it really fits the German sense of humor. They will think it is hilarious.

What is bad about beer when you are buying for somebody in Germany??? But there may be restrictions on what you can send anyway.

The movie "Animal House" might be an outstanding idea for someone overseas, and it is a classic.

Otherwise, it depends more on the person, not what country they are in.

Check out if your friend likes Western movies, or American sports like football, or your sort of music or so. Dallas Mavericks are somewhat popular in Germany since Dirk Nowitzki plays there. Or hey, if you're a true Texan, simply bring some barrels of crude oil :)

Steaks - well kinda difficult to transport. ;-)

But Germans who know the US often miss trivial things like American white bread or maccarony and cheese, Top Ramen soup, grape Kool-Aid (how I miss this!) even Hershey kisses and these cookies, I forgot the name, two round very dark pieces with a white cream inside - they're delicious!

You'll find something!
