Read all the answers and agree, but am glad I can add one thing to the attractions: there's a chocolate museum in Cologne, with a chocolate fountain in the front hall. You might want to go and check that out, too.
And, of course, if you are going in December, you should check out the christmas market, adn eat a "Pfannkuchen" or "Ballen" or "Berliner" or "Krapfen" or whatever it is they call it over there. It's a kind of donut that is usually only sold during the "Fasching" season here in Germany. Buy it at basically any bakery, and choose a jam-filled one. Those are the best! |

I'm a German and I've never been to Cologne (Köln) either. But there's one thing I know: "Kölsch" is not only the beer they drink there; "Kölsch" is also the word for their language. I hesitate to call it a mere dialect. Kölsch is a variation of German that's only understood in Cologne. So just don't try to understand a word, even if you know some "standard German". Stick to English.
As to all I know, Köln is a good fun and party city, and they're used to tourists. I think you'll enjoy it. Little risk of snow there all the year, but mind, it's the cold season anyway, and may be rainy. For four days, just don't try to find out how the public transport system works; call a taxi instead if you need transport. |

"Berliner" are sold throughout the year but you have to be careful when buying them during "Fasching". They are usually filled with jam but during Fasching they can also be filled with mustard. You don´t see it from the outside and no one will tell you *lol*
and always drink "Kölsch" when in Cologne, don´t drink "Alt" or even say you like Düsseldorf (a city Cologne has a "little" rivalry with).
I don´t know your preferences but Cologne is also known for being one of the most gayish cities in Germany.
Hope you enjoy your trip! |

Yes,it is nice.Go to the cathedral which is very interesting and have a river cruise on the Rhine. It is like many other major cities there are good shops and bars.It is what you want it to be and I have always found Germans to be freindy .But do not mention the war,as it was bombed and the locals get upset when you say " my dad came over often,in a B52" |

I've never been to germany but my great uncle lived their and he said the people their are lovely and extremely nice. He said that many people should forgive the Germans from the Holocaust (Not the Nazis but the People themselves) and see how nice of a country it is. |
