Tattoo culture in Germany? |
The last time I went to Germany I was 9 so I don't remember ever even paying attention to if people had tattoos or not.I'm 18 now and I have one at an angle on my next {Viva La White Girl} and one on my wrist.Although, that's irrelevant. My question is is there a large subculture of tattood people in Germany,as compared to America.Pretty much everyone in the US has atleast one tattoo...but my question is more directed towards heavier tattoo'd people? Are there a lot,or is it rare?& How are tattoo'd people accepted in Germany?I know it depends on the person and what part of Germany, but Im just looking for a general answer. When I think Germany I think Blonde,Tan,and preppy. Please tell me i'm wrong.& Don't take offense to this,i'm German,as if my whole family,I just haven't been back in so long,I can't remember. |

They have awesome tattoo shops there. My GF from Weimar got one in Barthe her old home town a few years ago and it covers her back and it is awesome.
They do good work from what I have seen and my brother was a Tattoo artist here in the States and he said they were great too! |

Some years ago nearly all young girls in Germany were running around with the so called "Arschgeweihe" (lower back tattoos, see here for an example: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arschgeweih ). But nowadays this hype has totally disappeared; many of the now grown-up women even try to remove these "sins of their youth" by laser as it is assumed that only low-class/quite simple-minded women are having these kinds of tattoos. |

tatoos, like the already mentioned arschgeweih ('butt antler') and neck / shoulder tribals (from dusk till dawn inspired, i guess) are very common though really all-over-body tattoos or many different, colorful tattoos are less accepted. that still represents the 'subculture' a bit. |

Of course there is a tattoo subculture in Germany, but most of the people who are having more than one tattoo are working in alternative jobs or are freelancers, media, music, tuning people. Germany has a very high rate of tattoo shops. But noone will think badly of you because of one or two tattoos. 27 per cent of the german population are tattooed |
