Teaching English in Germany? HELP? |
I got EFL certified + many specializations and I wish to teach English to young learners in private schools or even kindergartens in Germany. I was told by many that it's hard to teach English there.
Anyone teaching EFL/ESOL there?
Any schools online to apply with?
Even a training job?
I would need at least a training or to be a teacher assistant in English (for young learners I prefer).
Any tips, sites to check would be very much appreciated.
Thank you. |

Private schools might take you on if you have an MA in English Literature, (English) Linguistics or a proper "teaching degree". Kindergartens are usually interested in native speakers, even though they, as well, prefer those with a teaching or paedagogical degree. Mind that often only larger cities have kindergartens with big enough budgets to allow for an English teacher to come in twice a week.
You're entirely out of luck -sorry- when it comes to public schools. Germany simply doesn't lack English teachers at all and requirements for teachers are high. Teaching degrees from other countries are most often not just accepted as they are, but even fully qualified teachers will have to undergo additional training to be able to teach (public) here.
Teaching assistants for English are rare to non-existent in Germany, due to the fact that there is no lack of English teachers with a great command of English. Training jobs are virtually unavailable, sorry.
Online applications are not the done thing for teachers at all. Even Kindergartens require a personal interview; you could of course get in touch with a handful in order to get to that point.
You will need a work permit, and an adequate command of German. If you speak little or no German, getting a job will be bordering on the impossible - parents as well as Kindergarten staff will need to very clearly discuss with you all aspects of attitude, rules, guidelines etc. that matter to them. Even though most Germans these days speak English (well), German, after all, still is the language spoken. :)
Sorry I cannot be more positive. |

I think to be a teacher in a school in Germany, you have to have gotten a degree from Germany. As far as I know being EFL certified will only get you a job in private language schools.
I do know that it is very difficult as a foreigner to get a job a German would normally have. Do you have a work visa?
You can check out private language schools like Berlitz, Inlingua, Linguarama, etc. Those places are always looking for teachers. |
