I am German living in Germany and I have never seen free internet here (there's hardly anything free in Germany... lol). We have internet cafès, but you have to pay there.

yeah in big cities like frankfurt am main, berlin, munich etc. there are places where you can go on the internet say maybe 18 euros for an hour and you get a phone card so you can call overseas so i hope that helped =)

in contrast to the previous poster I have to say there's plenty of "open" hotspots all over germany now. You'll find free internet access in any Starbucks for example. WLAN is ubiqious, really!
