Thuringia Germany.?
Hi I am going to Thuringia this fall and was curious what places are fun to see and any events that occur then in that area around Sept/October.
Do they have Oktoberfest there or is that just Bavaria?
I speak a little German and will do my best to speak it while there I just hope I do not sound too funny hee hee.
Thanks, please tell me that Thuringia is a good area of Germany! My daughter went there on an exchange program and loved it and we are going back this Fall, only we have not decided between Jena, Erfurt, Weimar or Leipzig. Are their any other suggestions?
I just happened to be very familiar with this area and lived in Weimar which is very close to Erfurt, Jena and not far from Leipzig though that is not Thuringia.
I personally love Weimar and you can see some photos here
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7xb7w/travel/index.htm choose Germany and you can see a few years worth of images.
It was the Cultural city of Europe in 1999 and is the home of Ghoethe and Schiller.
Ghoethe brought the Ginko leaf to Germany and built several wonderful parks.
The bratwurst in Thurngia is so so good. I love it more than anywhere else so far and I have had other good Bratwurst.
Their are Castles near by and sadly a Concentration camp.
Every year around first week of October they have the Onion Market or Zwiebel Markt. It is much like Oktoberfest. A lot of fun!
So if you have any questions feel free to email me!
