If you not only want getting a pet but also do something good don't buy an animal but go to a "Tierheim" (animal shelter) where you can get e.g. dogs or cats (even young ones) for a rather small fee (for vaccination, castration, ...).
This site is in german, sorry, but if you need help / translation just ask me: http://www.tierschutz-berlin.de/
Location: "Das Tierheim Berlin befindet sich am Hausvaterweg 39 im Lichtenberger Ortsteil Falkenberg."
Animal Shelter Berlin is located at Hausvaterweg 39 in Berlin-Lichtenberg, Falkenberg.
Maybe use the route planner at http://www.de.map24.com |

Go to the animal shelter of the town. They always have puppys and you can be sure that they are well taken care of.
When you buy from a breeder, you must know who you go to, and for a foreigner it is hard to figure out how honest the person is, i.e. if the mother animal is used for breeding only (which has no good effect on the puppy). |

Hello! I'm German living in Germany, and I can tell you that we don't have stores here where you can buy cats and dogs! The only type of pets you can buy in pet-stores are rodents, birds and fish, and sometimes small reptiles such as lizards. In order to get a cat or dog your best bet is going to the shelter!! However, they do not always have kittens or puppies. Here is the website for the Berlin Tierheim (shelter):
http://www.tierschutz-berlin.de/
If you are interested in a young dog or cat you can also take a look at the local newspaper in the classifieds.
Hope this helps you some! |

I agree on go to the shelter!! And just so you no - you will not find a store that sells dogs or cats -because that is illegal in Germany! ( ...and should be every were) |
