Thanks to the InterNet, McDonald's, and Madonna you will not have to count in German. Answer number 2 gives you 2 very good words. Another phrase;
Sprechen Sie English - Do You speak English?
But, as long as you are in large cities and tourist areas English is spoken.
P.S. While answer number 1 is a common German phrase I would not recommend using it when trying to be friendly, unless you have a very intimate relationship with that person.......... |

"Danke" means Thank You, "Bitte" means Please. You could really just go and buy a phrase book, but you'll find that most Germans speak really good English, except for those over 70. Counting is not really necessary, unless you are planning to do some illegal money-changing :-)
Vie Spass (= "Have Fun")! |

Ich heiße ... = My name is ...
Wie komme ich zum Bahnhof/ Flughafen? = How do I get to the train station/ airport?
Ich suche... = I'm looking for...
These are common German phrases, and the other answers are good, too, except for the first one, but they told you that already.
And it's true, you can ask almost every one in Germany, most of us speak enough English to help you.
Enjoy your stay!! Viel Spaß! (=Have fun!) |
