Weekend trips from regensburg germany? |
going to germany next month on business in Regensburg. I will have a free weekend and would like some choices on places I would like to visit. I'm looking for the wilder side of Europe that I could get to by a fast moving train. I don't know what Regensburg is near but I'm not totally against a 5 hour train ride. Thanks. |

Regensburg is about a 1 hour train ride from Munich(in German; München), but if you are looking for 'Wild' times and do not mind a longer train ride I would suggest you travel to Berlin the Capitol of Germany. You can get as wild as you want there, tied up too if you like by whomever you want. Again I am not sure what your meaning of 'wild' is?
Munich is a very beautiful and tourist friendly city. It has a good Red Light district near the Main train station, and a variety of bars&establishments that cater to almost all 'wild' tastes. BUT, it is in Bavaria where the Pope is from. Sort of the German version of the States in America that are referred to as The Bible Belt. So, there are limits there(nothing compared to the States, but after 19 years in Germany you notice the difference between let's say Köln and München). I am sure you will get some very creative and wacky answers here(I had no idea padded cells had access to the InterNet) and one of those answers may be the 'wild' side you are looking for.
Now, if you want a beautiful city with lots of wild things, then go to Amsterdam in Holland. Let's put it this way; With my first visit to Amsterdam I visted the Anne Frank House and then spent 32 hours in a certain business(they took credit cards). That was wild&fun! Amsterdam I think would be your best bet for 'A Walk on the Wild Side'. |

Some ideas if you don't want to travel to far is Munich - or travel more the traditional Bavaria and see the 3 castle of King Ludwig II - Neuschwanstein, Linderhof & Herrenchimsee - Close to Regensburg is Walhalla a replica of the accropolis or travel the Danube to Weltenberg the oldest monestary brewery - up to five hours you can visit Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Dresden, Salzburg all great places to visit |

Regensburg is in the center of Bavaria -- Germany's most popular tourist destination - close to the Alps, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the Check Republic and any number of scenic German towns. I'm not exactly sure what kind of 'wild' you are looking for, but Bavaria's capital, Munich (Muenchen) is just a one-hour train-ride away, (you'll love Germany's fast and fabulous public transportantion system) and has as much to offer as New York or any other Metropolis. Everyone speaks English. Have fun! |

You basically have two choices:
Nearby destinations, and hose within weekend-reach including return and a night out or two, both by train.
For nearby, I suggest:
Munich (big and full of high-class entertainment)
Passau (small, but very pretty, a student town, and full of pubs and places to go out - although not too different from Regensburg; but a change of scenerey nevertheless)
Prague (adventurous to get to, but not far fantastic place, and definitely classifies as "Wild Europe")
Further afield:
Berlin
Vienna
Budapest
Everything else is just a bit far for a weekend.
Have fun! It's very possible. |
