If you were there as an army brat, you probably lived in Southern Germany (Bavaria or Hesse). For this reason I recommend going to another region, like Eastern Germany, North Sea (Hamburg and the islands) or the Rhineland (Cologne).
My recommendation would be to go to Berlin for about 5 days and then make a few trips. To Potsdam for a daytrip and to the Spreewald area and Dresden for a few days.

In the Spreewald you can easily rent a canoe or a bike and spent the day exploring the beautiful nature.
Around Dresden there is Festung Koenigstein, which I highly recommend visiting. Hiking is also an option around Dresden, as the Elbsandstein Mountains are a very popular tourist destination. Cycling down the Elbe River from Dresden to Koenigstein is also very popular - a cycling route leads all the way from Hamburg to Prague, and the part from Dresden to the Czech border is one of the nicest parts of it.
Have fun in Germany! |

In germany ,You have many nice places. In the south, You have München and the mountains. In the North, You have Hamburg and his big harbour and the Northsea. And in the middle of germany ,You have Cologne and the Rhinevalleys. The highlight of sightseeing:Berlin. It is a town with so many interesting places and sights.
I wish You a nice trip to germany.Enjoy it;-) |

Munich is beautiful place to visit. Lots to see and pretty soon Oktoberfest will be starting too (September 22nd). That would definitely be a new experience.
Also, there is the Neuschwanstein Castle not too far from here. That's the Castle that Disney based their Cinderella Castle on.
Cologne is nice, too. Its downtown area is very cute. |

I visited the Black Forest region many years ago and it was a beautiful area, little villages nestled in the mountain valleys, very scenic |

I was just over there a last month and I visited my friend in Bruhl. I liked it because it was in the middle of everything, you could take a train almost anywhere. I also enjoyed Calone (if you like bigger cities.) my suggestion is to hit as many places as possible though, when I visited i stayed at the same place but my family traveled from city to city and they had a great time. We also bought one of those book guides to germany that tell you about all their attractions or good places to visit. |

Heidelberg! The night life is great! Try the Schwimmbad. It has three levels with 3 different kind of music, Down on thw walkplatz is hopping too. But for ultimate night life, Berlin or Stuttgart. |
