Unless you want to meet millions of other tourists and hardly any Germans skip the Brandenburg Gate and the Oktoberfest, they are not sooo great anyway.

I would recommend the Black Forest, Cologne, a boat trip up or down the Rhine, Bamberg (small city in Bavaria) with the best beer and the most choice in local beers in the world, a medieval city centre, a Gothic cathedral and lovely surroundings, Munich for anybody who likes cultural things as well as night life, same is true for Berlin, but that is in the middle of a totally charmless hinterland, while Munich is surrounded by beautiful towns and villages and also near mad Ludwigs palaces, you should at least see one of them, like Herrenchiemsee or Neuschwanstein.

well yeah u got Alps - Garmisch-Partenkirchen

I agree with everything Hagesitze said, except the part about Berlin.

I come from Berlin myself, and would tell anyone it is a Must!

The "Brandenburger Tor" (="Brandenburger Gate") is pretty but it is not the only thing to visit. There are many other places there that are worth to see (ex.: "Prenzlauer Berg", "Reichstag",...)

I would also add a stop at the North Sea to the list --> for example in Hamburg.

I hope we were able to show that Germany has many good sites that are all worth to see, but probably impossible to visit on only onw trip ;-)

Berlin - Brandenburg Gates
Alps - Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Munich - Oktoberfest
Baden-Württemberg - Black Forest

Just about every village, town, etc has a fest going on this time of year.
